For ending traffic jams

Tuesday, 5 January 2010

WASTAGE of valuable time, energy and money and untold sufferings to millions of people, men, women and children are what the traffic jams cause in the capital city.
The main causes of the traffic jam in Dhaka, is movement of slow and fast vehicles on the same roads. The traffic often comes to a halt for long at different points. One can never reach one's destination in time.
It is a common and daily experience of people in the city. Sufferings of the city dwellers know no bounds.
Instead of constructing giant flyovers spending a lot from our public exchequer, small two and three storied flyovers at some of the road crossings can be tried. These could be built at the crossings at Farm Gate, Sonargaon Hotel, Bangla Motor, Hotel Sheraton, Shabagh. Topkhana- Paltan, Shapla Chottor, Malibagh, Nawbpur-English road, Gulistan, Rajarbagh Police Line, Gulshan No. I, Gulshan No. 2, GPO, and Maghbazar road.
The small flyover could be built by the public or private sector to facilitate movement of vehicles without any obstructions. Manually driven slow vehicles can be allowed to ply on the roads below the flyovers.
Would the authorities do it to end the untold sufferings of the people?
