DECENTRALISATION can reduce the population burden on the capital city.
The main problems facing Dhaka city include its traffic congestion, scarcity of water, load shedding and accommodation for its too many people.
The government can, with the needed steps, reduce the severity of some the problems.
More flyovers and subway or sky-rail for the city to ease the traffic congestion, are reportedly under the consideration of the government. Dhaka WASA is trying to use surface water instead of sinking more deep tube-wells as the city's ground water level is falling.
To reduce its population burden, we should decentralise the highest-level educational facilities. Decentralisation in other spheres will not require so many people to come to the capital city.
I know teachers have to go to DSHE, Dhaka several times to correct their names in their MPO list.
It could be done in the District Education Officers' offices. And there are lots of things that could be done without people coming to Dhaka.
Important offices like the Directorate of Primary Education could be shifted to Mymensingh DSHE and some of the universities and colleges could be shifted to Savar.
