For safe meats
Monday, 20 October 2008
MEAT shops and slaughter houses have mushroomed all over Dhaka city but the meat quality does not always meet the safety standards. It is said often buffalo meat is sold as beef. It is also alleged that beef often comes from diseased or infected cows, the consumption of which can endanger human health.
The city population faces so many health hazards. A considerable threat is now posed by such meat. The authorities should pay attention to this issue immediately.
What is needed is properly run slaughterhouses with the support staff. The health inspectors of the Dhaka city Corporation (DCC) should be required to regularly inspect the slaughter houses and certify the standard of meat from them.
