Foreign currencies worth Tk16.5m seized at Shahjalal

Customs officials recovered foreign currencies worth around Tk 16.50 million at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday. Sources at the airport said being tipped off, a team of Dhaka customs house conducted a drive at the export cargo village of the airport and recovered 6000 Saudi Riyal, 47,000 Dirham, 10,000 US dollars and 3000 Dinar worth around Tk 16.5 million at around 11:00 am. The foreign currencies were kept hidden in a carton containing vegetables which was scheduled to export to Singapore by an aircraft of Regent Airlines, said Assistant Commissioner (Customs) Riyadul Islam, according to a news agency.
