Foreign currency worth Tk1.780m seized at Shahjalal

Customsmen at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport seized foreign currencies worth around Tk1.780 million (Tk17.80 lakh) and arrested a man in this connection on Saturday night. The arrested is identified as Anisur Rahman, 45, a Bangkok-bound passenger. Deputy Commissioner (Customs) Ruhul Amin said Anisur Rahman was scheduled to go to Bangkok by an aircraft of a Thai airlines at midnight. When he was entering departure hall through Gate No-4, presence of foreign currencies was detected when his luggage was scanned at about 8:45pm. Searching the luggage, various foreign currencies, including 20,000 Saudi Riyal, 675,00 UAE Dirhams and 1500 Qatar Riyal were found, DC (Customs) Ruhul Amin said. Anisur Rahman will be handed over to Airport police station for legal actions, according to UNB.
