Foreign exchange reserve and utilities

Thursday, 30 July 2015

Electricity supply around Rashed Khan Menon Sarak, former New Eskaton Road, is a big inconvenience experienced almost everyday by the residents of the locality. There occur power outages for three to seven times daily, each lasting for periods lasting for 15 minutes to one hour. At times the disruption continues for two hours or more. On the evening of July 26, power supply was off for two hours. Even after the power was restored after two hours, voltage was very low and the lamps flickered. Power went off again at around 10:00 PM only to be restored after about an hour or so. There was power failure on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr at around 8:00 AM when the Imam was about to lead the Eid prayers at New Eskaton Jame Mosque and again on the same day, power failure occurred and lasted for more than two hours from 10:00 PM. We are tired of reading and watching the news of record electricity generation on the media (both print and electronic) while frequent disruptions that we experience off and on speak otherwise. Our leaders are complacent about the foreign exchange reserve, but we continue to be deprived of basic necessities like regular supply of electricity, water, gas etc. Should the planners do something to salvage the people from continued sufferings.
