Foreign investment

Foreign investment is not increasing as we do not see new significant investments made during the last few years which is discouraging for the economy. Every year, thousands of young men and women enter into the job market but compared to their numbers new jobs are not being created. We need to maintain a congenial political atmosphere in the country so that foreign investors are encouraged to come and invest here. Many Bangladeshi entrepreneurs who are well settled and living abroad are interested to invest in Bangladesh but are shied away by the unstable political situation.
Bangladesh has a great potential for investment, but we are lagging behind due to political instability. We have energetic and hard working human resources and I am sure if we can give them an opportunity, they are able to transform the face of our economy and pull the country out from poverty, backwardness and illiteracy. We need to attract both foreign and local investments and reduce corruption and bureaucratic tangle from our economy. Bangladesh is standing at a crossroads and we need to choose our next paths carefully. We should create a level playing field for all political parties so that they shun politics of violence, street fighting and strikes. I hope our political leaders will be able to realize the urgency of the situation and develop a mindset suitable to the twenty first century and help usher in a new dawn of prosperity for the country.
