Foreign ship idle at Mongla Port for two months

KHULNA, Nov 23: A foreign flag vessel has been lying idle at Mongla Port for the last two months following a dispute over its cargo.
Sources said, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) imported 5,400 metric tons fertilisers from Vietnam by sea and the ship anchored at Mongla Port on September 20. Most of the quantity have already been unloaded except about 200 tonnes. The remaining fertilisers were reportedly damaged. The importer claimed for compensation from the shipper giving rise to complexities.
As a result, the Mongla Port is facing berthing space crisis. The port authority is trying to resolve the issue.
