Form inter-country body to stop illegal migration: DU research unit

Refugee and Migratory Movement Research Unit (RMMRU), a Dhaka University institute, has recommended the creation of an inter-country commission for taking effective actions to stop illegal migration from Bangladesh to Malaysia via Thailand. The research unit came up with the recommendation at a press conference. titled ‘Illegal Migration via Sea Route and Implement of Migration Act 2013’, in the city on Saturday. Speaking at the press conference, RMMRU chairman Prof Tasneem Siddique noted that an international criminal syndicate of pirates of Andaman and Thailand border, and illegal brokers of Malaysia are strongly connected with Bangladeshi brokers and traffickers. ‘A joint inter-country commission should be established to take joint actions against illegal migration via sea route as Bangladesh alone is not liable for illegal migration in the region,’ she added, according to a news agency.
