Former BNP MP Nazim Uddin Alam sent to jail

Monday, 28 July 2008

Police Sunday arrested former BNP MP Nazim Uddin Alam from BNP leader Brig Gen (retd) Hannan Shah's new DOHS apartment in connection with four cases including one relating to extortion, reports UNB.

In the afternoon, a Dhaka court ordered him to jail, pending the trial.

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court in Dhaka heard the argument for his bail but the state side said he should not get that scope, as he repeatedly failed to appear in court earlier despite arrest warrants.

Kafrul Thana police arrested Alam at about 12:30pm. The Officer-in-Charge of Charfashion Police Station, Bhola, was present during the arrest.

BNP sources said Alam, an ex-lawmaker from Charfashion constituency in Bhola district, came to Hannan Shah's house at noon.

A team of police entered the apartment and arrested him from the drawing room where he was talking with party workers.
