Former Ctg civil surgeon sent to jail in graft case

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 28: A court here sent former civil surgeon Dr Sarfaraj Khan Chowdhury to jail in a graft case filed by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
Dr Sarfaraj Khan Chowdhury surrendered to the court of Chattogram Metropolitan and Special Judge Begum Jebunnesa and pleaded for bail on Sunday morning.
After hearing both sides, the court denied bail and ordered to send him to jail.
According to the case document, though the market price of an MRI machine is around Tk 20 million, Chattogram General Hospital bought it for Tk 60.15 million.
Similarly, four colour dopplers are bought for Tk 20.6 million, though the price of the machine is only Tk 9.8 million.
The other defendants in the case are - Chattogram General Hospital Senior Consultant (Medicine) Dr Md Abdur Rob, Jr. Consultant (Orthopedic Surgery) Dr Md Moin Uddin Majumdar, Senior Consultant (Surgery) Dr Bijan Kumar Nath, owner of equipment supplier Bengal Scientific and Surgical Company, Jaher Uddin Sarkar, Munshi Farooq Hussain, proprietor of M/s Ahmed Enterprises and Aftab Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of ASL.
