Former minister LK Siddiqui passes away

CHITTAGONG, Aug 1: BNP central vice chairman, former water resources minister and deputy speaker L K Siddiqui is no more. He was 83.
He breathed his last in Singapore Mount Elizabeth Hospital at around 11.00 am on Friday while undergoing treatment. He had been suffering from lung troubles for a long time.
BNP Chittagong north district leaders said he was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Dhaka on July 28 as he had felt trouble. He was flown to Mount Elizabeth Hospital following deterioration of his condition on Wednesday. He was on life support from Thursday.
His daughter and son will fly from Canada and Japan respectively to Singapore to bring the body home.
BSS add: He left behind his wife, three sons, a daughter and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
Siddiqui was elected member of parliament thrice from Sitakunda constituency in Chittagong in 1979, 1991 and 2001, said Aslam Chowdhury, BNP South district president.
His body will be brought to Dhaka today (Saturday) morning, Aslam Chowdhury said.
He will be buried at his family graveyard after the 4th Namaj-e-Janaja, which will be held at Sitakunda at 5 pm on Sunday.
Different political organisations on Friday expressed their deep shock at the death of L K Siddiqui, a former water resources minister.
In their messages they recalled the contributions of late Siddiqui to different democratic movements of the country.
They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved members of the family.
