Former minister Ramesh Chandra detained, AL MP Latif arrested

Former water resources minister and ex-MP from Thakurgaon-1 (Sadar Upazila) constituency Ramesh Chandra Sen has been detained and taken into custody by the Detective Branch (DB) of the police.
He was detained from his residence in the Ruhia area of Thakurgaon around 11 pm on Friday (August 16) and taken to Dhaka by a DB team. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ruhia Police Station, Gulfamul Islam Mondal confirmed the matter, reports UNB.
The DB team took Ramesh away, and they only assisted them, said the OC.
The OC did not say why Ramesh was detained.
The head of DB in Thakurgaon (OC) Anwarul Islam said that none of their teams were on duty. He stated that he was unaware of the details regarding the detention of Ramesh Chandra Sen.
Ramesh's wife, Anjali Sen, said that a team of 10-12 people in plain clothes took him away in a car. She could not say who took him or where he was taken.
Another report from Chattogram adds: Former Member of Parliament for Chattogram-11 and Awami League leader M.A. Latif was arrested by police early Saturday. The arrest took place around 6:30 am in the Bayezid Bostami area of the city, according to officials from the Double Mooring Police Station under the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
This arrest follows a tense incident on August 9, when Latif was reportedly hiding at a relative's house in the Nasum Malum Mosque area of Madarbari, Chattogram. Local residents, having discovered his whereabouts, surrounded the house and effectively detained him.
Upon receiving reports of the situation, the army intervened, rescuing Latif from the enraged crowd and ensuring his safety.
Sources from the police station revealed that the arrest is linked to a case filed by an individual named Ershad, who was injured by gunfire during the student protests. The case, filed on Friday at Double Mooring Police Station, names M.A. Latif was one of 16 individuals accused, along with 100 to 150 unidentified persons. According to the allegations, Latif is accused of ordering the shooting.
Confirming the arrest, Officer-in-Charge Fazlur Kader Patwari of Double Mooring Police Station stated, "Former MP M.A. Latif has been arrested from the Bayezid Bostami area. He has been sent to court with an 8-day remand request."
