Former SCC mayor now in Sylhet jail

SYLHET, Sept 9: Suspended mayor of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) was brought back to Sylhet Central Jail from the capital in the early hours of Wednesday.
Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, who had been undergoing treatment in Dhaka Medical College Hospital, was sent back to the Dhaka Central Jail on Tuesday afternoon.
He was admitted to hospital with a backbone problem.
He had been suspended as SCC mayor in January last for his alleged involvement in the killing of former finance minister SAMS Kibria and four others.
Earlier, the Sylhet Speedy Trial Tribunal deferred the charge framing in the sensational case nine times in the last four months, as the authorities failed to produce him before the tribunal.
