Fortuna Apparels Ltd, a leading readymade garment (RMG) factory of the country, has taken several steps to comply with the conditions set by the foreign buyers.
Fortuna Group Chairman Engineer M Abu Taher Thursday at a press conference at the company's head office in Gazipur said that they have got an order of 2.5 million pieces of clothes (half pants) worth about $ 12 million from the Wal-Mart, a world renowned buyer of readymade garments from Bangladesh in the wake of achieving recognition as a compliance company.
"We are now strictly implementing the timeline of work by the workers ten hours in a day, allowing three-month maternity leave with regular wage, giving salary on the seventh day of every month and other incidental facilities for the workers", he said.
Taher, however, expressed his deep shock at the untoward clash over a rumour of nonpayment of the workers' salary on the prescheduled day in the factory in which a female worker died May 20.
The Fortuna Group, soon after the death of the female worker, Asma, provided Asma's parents with Tk 1,00,000 as consolation.
