CHITTAGONG, Feb 24: A strong leadership in BGMEA is a must for proper handling of the Readymade Garment (RMG) sector of the country in the ongoing critical situation due to the persisting downtrend in global economy.
Speakers expressed the above views while addressing a meeting arranged by the Forum of apparel industry owners on the occasion of the upcoming election of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters' Association (BGMEA) held at a hotel in Chittagong Thursday.
The Forum leaders said the dynamic role and leadership of the Forum had rescued the country from the extreme state of uncertainty after the withdrawal of quota system and raised the export earnings of the RMG products to 10 billion US dollar.
While presiding over the meeting, Chittagong Forum president and eminent industrialist Khaliluur Rahman called upon RMG owners to elect the forum leaders again for reaching the target of export up to 21 billion US dollar.
Forum leaders Mahmudur Rahman Manna, N Shahadat Hossain Kiron, BGMEA President Anwarul Alam Chowdhury (Pervez) and Amir Azam spoke at the meeting, among others.
