Apparel manufacturers will construct a hospital to provide modern health care services to the apparel sector workers and their families free of cost as the poor community cannot avail the same due to high expenses.
With the aim, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will lay foundation stone of the 150-bed hospital at Mirpur in the city tomorrow (Sunday).
After showing identity cards of the workers, each of the family members of garment workers will also receive the state-of-the-art treatment facility from the country's reputed specialists.
BGMEA president Abdus Salam Murshedy said the construction work of the eight-storied BGMEA hospital will be started Sunday and it would be completed in two years.
"The estimated cost of hospital is around Tk 300 million (30 crore) and our members will contribute a major part of the total fund," he said, adding that they have also started negotiation with several overseas donors to get rest of the amount.
