Four businesses fined for violating rules

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) carried out drives on Friday against some business entities at Karwanbazar, Mohakhali, Elenbari, and East Nakhalpara areas and fined four business establishments a total of Tk 18,000 for violating the existing rules.
Director of DNCRP Manzoor Mohammad Shahriar led the drives.
He told the media that Hazi Resturant, Hazi Sweets, Baba Mayer Meat Shop and New Jamjam Sweets and Bakery located at Nakhalpara area were fined Tk 10,000, Tk 5,000, Tk 1,000 and Tk 2,000 respectively as they did not hang the product charts in visible place and were preparing Iftar items in an unhygienic environment.
Assistant Director (AD) of DNCRP Dhaka office Md Abdul Jabbar Mandal and AD of DNCRP divisional office in the city Md Magfur Rahman also joined the drive.
The DNCRP official further said they had also visited Mohakhali Bus Terminal and asked the bus operators not to overcharge homebound passengers during Eid-ul-Fitr.
He said the bus owners have agreed to realise bus fares from the passengers as per BRTA charts and will follow the Consumer Rights Protection Act-2009.
He said deceived consumer/s could lodge complaints against any business entities on DNCRP's hotline number 16121 or send message, email or by post through nccc@dncrp.gov.bd .
Earlier, a mobile team of DNCRP carried out drives at Moulvibazar wholesale spices market in the capital on Thursday last.
During the drives, three shop owners were fined a total of Tk 40,000 for selling spices at higher prices and failure to show money receipts to the mobile team of DNCRP.
Nawabganj Traders was fined Tk 10,000 while Batija Store Tk 10,000 and Mostofa Enterprise Tk 20,000.
Besides, the shops owners did not hang price charts in their respective shops.
The businessmen in the market have assured the DNCRP that they would follow the government directives to protect the consumers' interests.
