Four businesses fined Tk 0.12m for violating consumer protection law

A mobile court of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection on Sunday fined four business entities in Dhaka and Gazipur over Tk 0.12 million (Tk 123,000) for violating the existing consumer protection law.
The Directorate's assistant directors Abdul Jabbar Mandal and Md Hasanuzzaman jointly led the drives. During a drive at Uttara in Dhaka city, they fined Falguni Restaurant Tk 15,000 for preparing and preserving foods in an unhygienic condition, while Ayesha Pharma was fined 5,000 for preserving and selling unauthorised foreign medicines.
The mobile team also fined Ma General Store at Tongi in Gazipur Tk 0.1 million for preparing cakes and other food items by using colour - usually used for dying clothes. The team also fined Riman Enterprise Tk 3,000 for not hanging the price list on a visible place.
The Directorate has been regularly carrying out drives to protect interests of consumers and the genuine traders, according to BSTI.
