Four CCTF projects near completion in Sylhet

SYLHET, Apr 17: Works on 4 projects worth Tk 206.326 million under the Climate Change Trust Fund (CCTF) are going on in Sylhet and 3 of them are expected to be completed by the end of June this year, a senior official of Water Development Board (WDB) informed Tuesday. BCCTF had funded these with a target to face the climate change effects in the region.
Contacted, the Superintending Engineer of the WDB, Sylhet Circle SM Shahidul Islam told the correspondent on average 60 per cent works had already been completed on the project of Surma river's char dredging at the city's Kanishail area along 600 metre and slope protection at Kanishail.
It began in January 2016 and would be completed by June 30 this year. The project cost is Tk 96.727 million.
The second project on the 450 metre protection of Dauki riverbank at Jaflong Tea garden area in Gowainghat upazila and is expected to be completed in June this year as more than 60 per cent works are already done.
The cost is Tk 40 million, the official informed it was began in September 2015.
Works on the protection of the 400 metre long Pashchimbhag-Noagaon area in Dakshin Surma upazila from Surma river erosion and protection on Mirganj bazaar area in Golapganj upazila from Kushiyara river are also in progress. About 50 per cent works had been done on the project worth Tk 50 million which was started in October 2015 and set to be completed in September 2019.
The 4th project of riverbank protection at a cost of Tk 19.595 million has been going on in Mulagul and Kandla Noyabazar area in Kanaighat upazila where 200 metre long area is being protected from the severe erosion of Luba river. It was started in September 2014 and it would be completed in June this year, Shahidul Islam added.
