Four children drown in Chuadanga, Rajshahi ponds

A total of four children drowned in separate incidents in Chuadanga and Rajshahi districts on Tuesday, report agencies.
In Chuadanga, two minor boys drowned in a water body in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district on Tuesday noon.
The deceased were identified as Sihab, 7, son of Tariqul Islam, and Hussain, 8, son of Habir. They are the residents of Iswarchandra village under Darshana municipality of the upazila. Sihab was a madrasa student while Hussain a school student.
Locals said that the boys went to the waterbody to take bath at noon and when they jumped into the waterbody their legs got stuck in the mud, they said.
After rescuing them from the waterbody, they were rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared them dead upon arrival, said Ferdous Wahid, officer-in-charge of Darshana police station.
In Rajshahi, two children drowned in a pond in the Hetemkha area under Boalia Police Station in Rajshahi city on Tuesday noon.
Locals said that the deceased were identified as Ananta, 6, son of Gobinda, and Nirjhor, 9, son of Niren. They are the residents of the same area.
Sohrawardi Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boalia Model Police Station, said that the babies drowned while they were taking bath in the pond around 1.30 pm.
Neighbours rushed them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where the attending doctors declared them dead.
