Four die in Barisal, Comilla road accidents

Four people have been killed in separate road accidents in Barisal and Comilla districts during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. In Barisal, a female passenger of a Mahendra (human hauler) was killed and five other people were injured when two human haulers collided head-on in Gabtala area of Narayanpur under Uzirpur upazila of the district on Friday. The deceased was identified as Nurunnahar Begum, 30. In Comilla, three persons, including a father and his son, were killed and five others injured in three separate road accidents at Burichang, Chandia and Laksam upazilas of the district on Friday. The deceased were identified as Azharul Islam Azhar, 42, an employee of Shaorin Textiles, his son Nur Morshed, 9, and an unidentified female street beggar aged about 50. In Burichang, the accident occurred in front of Shaorin Textiles in Debpur area on Comilla-Sylhet Highway when a bus ran over Azhar and his son Morshed, police and local sources said. They died on the spot, the sources said adding that their bodies were handed over to the family. Azhar along with his son was returning to their village home at Mollabari in Rampur area under Burichang upazila. In Chandina, a street female beggar was killed when a passenger bus ran her over at Kutumbpur on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, police said. She died on the spot. In Laksam, five unidentified persons were injured when a bus collided with a corps carrying microbus in Laksam Bypass area on Comilla-Noakhali road, police said. All the injured were the passengers of the microbus. Three of the injured were rushed to Noakhali Sadar Hospital in a critical condition, the sources said. Three separate cases were lodged with respective police stations in these connections, according to a news agency.
