Four die in city road crashes

At least four people were killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka city in the last 24 hours ending Friday night. The deceased were identified as pickup van driver Harun Akanda, 50, and his assistant ‘Aktar’, 20, Mahbub Maria, 22, a ‘hermaphrodite’ or transgender and Saiful Islam, 24. Inspector of Airport Police Station Shahidul Islam said a car moving at high speed ran over Harun and Aktar when they were trying to fix their malfunctioned pickup van on the side of the main road at Uttara in front of Scholastica School in the evening. Mahbub Maria was hit and killed by a bus near Banani graveyard while Saiful Islam was also run over by a bus on Bishwa Road in Kuril at night. Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Separate cases were filed with the concerned police stations, according to private TV channels.
