THAKURGAON, Jan 2 (UNB): Four people, including three traders, were arrested for illegally hoarding six tonnes of Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) flour and 252 kilograms wheat at Deviganj Bazar under Sadar Upazila Monday night.
Being tipped off by local people, police conducted a drive at the bazar and arrested local traders - Abdul Halim, Abu Sufial, Pappu and truck driver Shamim - when they were loading those in a truck at dead of night.
A case was filed.
The VGD programme in Bangladesh is the largest WFP-assisted development intervention for vulnerable women. Under the programme each of these women receives project assistance over a two-year cycle. Assistance includes a monthly food ration and training.
The women also receive a monthly cash allowance additional to their food ration. NGO partners are involved in imparting training to these women.
