Four, including cop, die in road crashes

A policeman was among four people killed in separate road accidents in Barisal and Kishgoreganj districts on Friday afternoon and Saturday. Three people were killed and 30 others injured in road accident in Agarpur area under Kuliarchar Upazila of Kishoreganj district early Saturday. Two of the deceased were identified as Umeda Begum, 52, wife of late Abdul Mannan, and Jasim Uddin, 60, son of late Dulal Mia. Locals said a Habiganj-bound bus from Mymensingh town plunged into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering around 1:00am, leaving three bus passengers dead on the spot and 30 injured. The injured were rushed to different nearby hospitals. In separate accident, a cop was killed and his wife injured at Kashimpur in Barisal city on Friday afternoon. The dead is Mohammed Jewel, 35, a member of Armed Police Battalion. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Airport Police Station M Shaheduzzaman said a speeding truck hit Jewel and his wife around 3:00pm when they were crossing the road at Kashimpur, killing the cop on the spot and injuring his wife. The injured was admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, according to private TV channels.
