Four injured in city slum fire

Firefighters with the help of police and local people doused the fire which broke out in a slum in Gabtoli area in Dhaka city on Wednesday night. Four people, including a woman and a child, sustained burn injuries after the devastating fire erupted from a stove in a shanty at Dipnagar slum in Beribandh area in Gabtoli around 9pm. The injured were identified as Abdul Gani, 40, Shanta Akter, 22, and her daughter Brishti, 3, and her son Rubel, 14, all residents of the slam. Being informed, several firefighting units from Mirpur, Gabtoli, Lalmatia, Aminbazar and the headquarters of Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed in and put out the blaze early Thursday with the help of police and locals. The injured were rushed to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Inspector Mojammel Haque, in-charge of DMCH police camp, confirmed the incident, according to a news agency.
