Four injured in locals-BGB clash in Dinajpur

A clash between Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) personnel and local residents of Dinajpur’s Biral Upazila over a cultural show on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha has left at least four injured. Sources in the border force, police and the local community confirmed that the incident took place at Gobindapur village near Dungdungi border on Saturday.
The two injured villagers, Zakir Hossain, 18, and Mohammad Sunny, 21, were sent to the Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital. The two BGB troopers reportedly injured in the incident were being treated at their own facility, according to BGB-2 Battalion Commander Lt Col Jamal Hossain.
Local UP Chairman Nur Islam told bdnews24.com that the cultural show started on Friday night and ran onto Saturday morning. “The clash broke out when BGB men from Dungdungi camp went to stop the celebrations.”
“The programme was organised without permission. There is a bar on hosting such programmes near the border area. But they did it within 150 yards of the border,” the BGB commander said.
Some ‘unruly’ people reacted when the BGB men went to request them to end the programme. “Two of our men were injured and a weapon was damaged in the clash,” he added.
Biral Police Station’s OC Tapash Chandra Pundit said the situation was brought under control with the help of “representatives” of local people, according to bdnews24.com.
