Four members of a family shot at by BSF

KURIGAM, Jun 16 (UNB): Four members of a family, including a minor girl, were shot and wounded by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) while going to India illegally through the Khalisha Kotal bordering area in Phulbari Upazila of the district Sunday night.
The injured are Sheuli Rani Das (40), her daughter Srabanti Das (3), her nephew Deblada das (15) and Ajaya Chandra Das (19).
BGB Balahat BoP Nayek Subedar Makbul Hossain said when 10 members of a Hindu family were trying to go to India illegally the BSF troops opened fire on them near main border pillar no-934/1 S around 9:30 pm, leaving four people injured.
Hearing the sound of firing, the BGB members rushed to the area and recovered the injured people.
Later, the BGB jawans admitted the injured to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex.
The BGB members also arrested six other members of the family from the area.
The arrestees are Pabitra Rani Das (65), wife of late Thakurdhan, her son Rintu Chandra Das (45), Rintu's daughter Antara Das (12), Falguni Das (8), Swarna Das (5) and Rintu's nephew Dolon Rani Das (15) of Sahaganj village in Taherpur Upazila of Sunamganj district.
Later, they were handed over to Phulbari thana police.
BGB-34 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mofazzal Hossain Akand confirmed the incident.
Bazlur Rashid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Phulbari Police Station, said the arrestees were trying to cross the border illegally for going to their relative's house in Chennai of India.
