Four of a family burnt alive in Chittagong

CHITTAGONG, Apr 3: Four members of a family have been killed in a fire at Lohagara upazila of the district. They were burnt alive inside their house.
Police said the fire broke out in the house of one Abdur Rahim at Adhunagar village of the upazila in the early hours of Thursday as four members of the family were sleeping.
The deceased are Abdur Rahim (43), his wife Nasima Akhtar (39), their children Reshmi Akhtar (13) and Sumi Akhtar (9). They were fast asleep as the fire ravaged the house and spread to another house.
Two sons of Rahim survived as they were not in the house. One of them was residing at a Hefzakhana and another had left for maternal uncle's house, OC (Officer-in-Charge) of Lohagara police station Md Shahjahan said adding that Rahim was a carpenter by profession. The bodies have been sent to the hospital morgue.
Meanwhile, four persons died and two others fell sick in toxic gas intake at a shipyard at Sitakunda today.
OC of Sitakunda police station Iftekhar Hasan said the incident occurred at the Arefin Enterprise shipyard owned by one Kamal Uddin of Sitakunda at around 3:30 pm Thursday.

Some traders went to buy goods of scrap ship at the yard in the afternoon. At that time a carbon-dioxide gas cylinder was mistakenly opened up. Six persons fell severely ill due to the toxic gas.
They were rushed to a hospital but the attending physicians declared them dead. The victims were yet to be identified until filing of this report at 7:15 pm.
