Four of a family trampled to death by elephants

BANDARBAN, July 11 (UNB): Four members of a family, including two children, were trampled to death by wild elephants at Yangsa Bonpur in Lama Upazila Thursday night.

The deceased were identified as Syed Alam, his wife Jarina Khatun, son Md Jubayer and daughter Kulsumara.

UP chairman Kamaluddin said a herd of wild elephants destroyed the house of Syed around midnight when they were asleep and killed Syed and three members of his family.

The elephants also damaged adjoining houses and injured another person, Anwar Hossain. Later, army and police went to the spot and recovered the bodies.

The UP chairman said wild elephants come to the locality frequently in search of food and damage houses and crops. Over 100 people were killed by wild elephants in the last five years, he said.
