Four people killed in fresh Lanka fighting

Wednesday, 4 July 2007

COLOMBO, July 3 (AFP): Sri Lankan soldiers killed four suspected Tamil Tiger rebels as fresh fighting flared in the island's troubled northern district, the defence ministry said Tuesday.
Security forces confronted a group of rebels late Monday along a de facto front line at Muhamalai in the Jaffna peninsula and killed four of them, the military said.
The overnight clashes were the latest in a series of attacks that have claimed more than 5,000 lives since fighting in the tropical island's ethnic conflict escalated in December 2005.
