Four software companies from Bangladesh are set to take part in the upcoming Software Development Expo (SODEC) to be held in Japan from this week.
Leading Software companies including LeadSoft, BITS Solutions Limited, Aprosoft Consulting and Training Corp and US Software are going to participate in the three-day long fair to be held in the Japanese capital Tokyo from May 12 to 14, said a source in the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
This is the third time that IT companies from Bangladesh are participating in the mega annual expo- which has grown to be a major IT event in East Asia as well as the world and is perceived as a major gateway for entering into the lucrative Japanese software market.
More than 1500 companies from around the world are expected to take part in the event set to be hosted at Tokyo International Exhibition Center from Wednesday. As many as 115,000 visitors are expected attend this year's event.
Japan, the world's third largest economy and the second largest in Asia, is also home to some of the world's major corporate giants and the country's strong service and manufacturing base offers ample business opportunities for the local IT companies in terms of outsourcing.
"We are expecting the event to be a major exposure for our local IT companies as our market share in Japan needs major augment", said a representative from Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS).
Bangladesh's software and ITES export to overseas have seen substantial increase in recent years. However, United States and Scandinavian countries remain the major destinations for software exporters while the large outsourcing market of Japan remained mostly untapped.
Language problem remains a major constrain for the local farms to make niche in this East Asian nation, experts said, as proficiency in the local language is a must for making entry into the Japanese market.
"Over the years, our software export to Japan has not crossed two to three million although the IT outsourcing market is still booming," an industry insider observed, "so, obviously there is a greater scope for our market expansion in the island country", he added.
A total of 1,416 companies from around the world participated in the prior staging of SODEC expo in 2009.
