Monday, 23 July 2007

A divisional special judge court Sunday recorded depositions made by four witnesses in the Electronic News Gathering (ENG) camera-buying case against former President HM Ershad as part of the continuing trial proceedings. Sources said Ershad appeared in the court amid rain along with his lawyers and supporters at about 11:15 am. A total of nine witnesses have so far submitted statements in the case. After recording the statements, the Dhaka Divisional Special Judge's Court fixed August 1 as the next date for taking depositions. The then Anti-Corruption Bureau had filed a case against Ershad for allegedly resorting to corruption in buying ENG cameras worth Tk 29.3 million (2.93 crore) during his tenure as President. —UNB
