Four to walk to gallows for murders in Gazipur, Rangpur

Four young men were sentenced to death Thursday, two for rape and murder of a minor girl at Kapasia in Gazipur, and two others for murder in Rangpur town. In Gazipur, Judge Khan Abdul Mannan handed down the death penalty to two youngsters, both named Zakir Hossain and aged around 20, for rape and murder of a minor girl in a remote village of Kapasia two years ago. According to the prosecution, the youngsters lured Asma (10) with promise of cake to a secluded place on August 14, 2005. After rape they strangulated her to death. The villagers held them when the rapists were trying to hide the body of Asma under the earth, and handed over to the police. On the other hand, Rajshahi divisional speedy trial tribunal sentenced to death two young men for murder of a relative in Rangpur four years ago. Mehedi Hasan Rajib and Shafiqul Islam Pappu of Keranipara under Rangpur town were handed down the death penalty. — UNB
