Newsmen working with different national media at a webinar in the city on Wednesday emphasised formulating a health safety policy for workplaces in order to ensure a healthy and secure working environment.
Besides, there should be health safety training and awareness building in offices as still there are some misconceptions around, they viewed.
Journalists from different media outlets expressed the opinions at the webinar titled 'Health protection at the time of coronavirus' organised by BRAC, to discuss and exchange views from reporters' accounts.
Under the policy, there should be a health insurance and necessary logistic supports, including safe transportation, health safety gears, and proper health safety instructions, to cover any event in such a condition now and future, they noted.
Newsmen, especially photo and videographers and TV journalists, in most cases work from the front while live interviews also sometimes could carry the risk of being infected with the coronavirus, said experts at the BRAC.
Besides, still there is lack of awareness about safety, reuse and disposal of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), face masks and gloves during and after covering any event and going back to the workplaces, they added.
The experts also stressed following proper health guidelines after resuming regular activities during the pandemic.
The event was conducted by Rafe Sadnan Adel, head of (Media and external relations) BRAC Communications while Dr Anabeel Sen, sector specialist, Health, Nutrition and Population Programme of BRAC, gave answers to the queries made by journalists.
