France to offer euro 100m loan to upgrade Dhaka\\\'s power supply

The French donor agency AFD will provide Euro 100 million in loan to the Bangladesh government for upgrading the power supply system of the Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) Ltd.
The European donor signed a loan agreement to this effect with the Economic Relations Division (ERD) in Dhaka Monday.
ERD Senior Secretary Mohammad Mejbahuddin and Asia Director of the AFD Pascal Pascaut inked the agreement.
Additional secretary of the ERD Abul Mansur Md. Faizullah, France Ambassador in Bangladesh Sophie AUBERT, and Managing Director of the DPDC were present, among others, at the loan agreement signing ceremony.
Under the AFD's financial support, the DPDC will set up some 15 power grid sub-stations and improve its supply system aimed at ensuring quality electricity for the consumers.
The project will cost $225 million, where the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will also provide US$35 million loan for this project as a co-financier.
Meanwhile, the AFD's Euro 100 million credit will be a part of the government-donor created US$1.60 billion funds for the 'Power System Expansion and Efficiency Improvement Programme'.
The ADB, the Islamic Development Bank and the AFD are participating in the $1.60 billion power sector improvement programme of the Bangladesh government.
