Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed Thursday hoped that a free, fair, neutral and acceptable election with participation of all political parties would be held to transfer power to an elected government, reports UNB.
"The country is advancing towards the election. An election environment has been created," he told journalists at a reception at Pradhan Upadesta Bhaban on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
He expressed the hope that voters would exercise their rights with wisdom, judiciousness and conscience in free mind without any fear to elect their representatives. The CA hosted separate Eid reception for foreign diplomats and people from all walks of life from 10:30 am to about 12:30 pm on the day.
He said necessary amendments were made to the electoral laws following the Election Commission's (EC) consultation with political parties, journalist community and civil society.
The head of the caretaker government said preparations for holding the election are at the final stage, and the election date has already been announced.
In his recent address to the nation the CA has announced December 18 as the date for holding the general election, which was earlier stalled amid a political crisis in January last year.
He conveyed greetings of Eid-ul-Fitr to the countrymen and wished all the citizens a peaceful, prosperous and beautiful Bangladesh and their good health. Fakhruddin and his spouse Mrs Neena Ahmed exchanged eid greetings and pleasantries with the guests.
Speaker Jamiruddin Sircar, Advisers, Special Assistants, politicians, including leaders of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and JAGPA, diplomats, chiefs of three services of the Armed Forces, people from different professions and senior civil and military officials attended the reception.
Meanwhile, Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed Thursday expressed the hope that the country would get good leadership next January that will steer the nation on the course of development.
Talking to journalists at an Eid-ul-Fitr reception hosted by the CA at Pradhan Upadesta Bhaban, General Moeen, who and whose force are working closely with the crisis-time CG, noted that Bangladesh has resources and capability to become a prosperous nation.
