Free, neutral polls not possible under AL govt
BNP team tells German envoy

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders sat in a meeting with Chargé d'affaires of Federal Republic of Germany in Bangladesh Jan Janowski on Wednesday and discussed how to ensure free, fair and neutral elections in the country.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Organising Secretary Shama Obaid were present in the hour-long meeting, held at the party chairperson's office in the capital's Gulshan area.
BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury briefed the media after the meeting.
"We have discussed the present situation in Bangladesh. The German envoy has inquired about the health condition of Khaleda Zia," he said.
"All are waiting to see the upcoming election in Bangladesh. The whole world is thinking about the national polls. We have discussed how the country's elections can be held by maintaining an international standard."
"We have informed the German envoy that a free, fair, neutral and international-standard election will not be possible under the present Awami League (AL) government."
"The countrymen have a demand for a neutral election. We have discussed how to ensure a free, fair and participatory election," he added.
