French agro-processing technology introduced

The Economic and Trade Department of the Embassy of France Monday organised a roundtable at a city hotel to introduce French technology and expertise to the agro-food producers of Bangladesh.
The roundtable, jointly organised by Ubifrance (the French Agency for International Business Development), the France Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the French Association for the Development of the International Trade of Agri-foods Products & Technologies, was aimed at promoting partnership between the two countries.
Experts from both the countries made presentations on various subjects on the occasion, while two company representatives from France made presentations on agro-processing technologies which have been successfully implemented in their enterprises.
Welcoming the participants, Laurent Estrade of the French Embassy said French agro sector is the second largest in the world and its expertise in innovative processing and packaging is laudable.
"As for Bangladesh, its agro industry is growing fast but facing challenges," he said adding that the roundtable aims at finding solutions to these challenges with the help of French expertise”.
Consultant of Bangladesh Agro-food Processor Association (BAPA) Prof Md Moslem Ali in his presentation said lack of modern technology and post-harvest development knowledge are hindering development in the sector.
Besides, dearth of adequate storage facility, transportation and interruption in power supply has also impeded growth of the country's agro-processing industry, he added.
He welcomed the French experts and urged them to assist Bangladesh with solutions based on practical knowledge.
