Fresh polls only way to resolve crisis: BNP It terms AL govt illegal

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Saturday there is no alternative to holding a fresh national election under a non-party administration to resolve the ongoing political crisis, reports UNB.
"The country's people are passing through a hard time. We ask the government to hold an election under a non-party caretaker government. This is the only way to overcome the crisis," he said.
The BNP spokesman was talking to reporters after distributing food among the destitute in the city's Kuril area.
BNP took a three-day food distribution programme among the destitute, marking the 33rd death anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia who inaugurated the food distribution programme Friday could not attend the scheduled programme Saturday due to her illness. She distributed food at 25 points of the city Friday.
Alongside Mirza Fakhrul, BNP leaders ASM Hannan Shah, Mirza Abbas, Rafiqul Islam Miah, Nazrul Islam Khan and chairperson's adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo also separately distributed food at different parts of the city on behalf of Khaleda.
Mirza Fakhrul branded the government as an illegal and immoral one and said it has no right to stay in office in any way.
The BNP leader alleged that the government snatched people's democratic rights and is illegally holding office.
He warned that they together with people will realise their demand for a fresh election under a non-party government through a strong movement if the government does not willingly accept it.
Mirza Fakhrul asked the government to stop its repressive acts and not to block the opposition's democratic programmes.
