Fugitive convict held in city

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a fugitiveconvict, who was sentenced to life term imprisonment in a gang-rape, from city's Jatrabari area in the early hours of Tuesday, reports BSS.
The arrested was identified as Masum, 48, son of Abdur Rashid of Goalibagha (Saleswar) village of Baufal police station in Patuakhali district.
Commanding Officer of RAB-3 Lt Col Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed confirmed the matter saying that on the basis of secret information, a team of
RAB-3 arrested him by raiding Syedabad area of Jatrabari police station around 2am.
According to RAB sources, a gang rape case was filed against Masum with Kotwalipara thana in Gopalganj district in 2002.
In that case, the court sentenced him to life term imprisonment in 2006.
He had been hiding for almost 17 years since the verdict in the case was announced.
The RAB official said that necessary legal action has been taken against him.
