Fugitive murder convict held in Laxmipur

Detectives arrested a fugitive murder convict from Lamchari area in Sadar upazila of Laxmipur district on Monday night. Muhammad Shariful Islam, additional superintendent of police said, the arrestee, Taiyab Alam, son of Samsul Alam, a resident of Shibpur village in Ramganj upazila of the district, was sentenced to death in absentia for killing a microbus driver Jabed Hossain on May 31, 2000. Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a raid on the house of Taiyab’s father-in-law in the area and arrested him at night, the ASP added, according to a news agency.
