War crimes suspect Sheikh Sirajul Haque aka Siraj Master, infamously known as ‘Koshai Siraj’, was arrested in Bagerhat Sadar upazila on Monday night, police say. Bagerhat Model Police Station OC Md Ali Azam Khan said Kosai Siraj, 72, son of Harez Sheikh, a resident of Gotapara village of the upazila, was picked up around 10:30pm from an abandoned house at Dema village. OC Md Ali Azam Khan said the arrest came after the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) issued an arrest warrant for him on June 10 this year. ‘Siraj had fled the area in 2009. Police raided Dema village on a tip-off that he has returned,’ Khan said. Siraj, accused in the case over crimes against humanity committed during the country’s independence struggle in 1971, would be sent to Dhaka at some time on Tuesday, he added.
