Fulgazi UZ chairman murder: Vanquished chairman candidate among 36 sued

A case was filed against 36 people, including a BNP-blessed chairman candidate of Feni’s Fulgazi Upazila (UZ) Parishad, for murder of Ekramul Haque, the incumbent chairman of the UZ. Assailants shot Ekramul Haque in his microbus and then torched the vehicle with the UZ chairman inside it in front of Bilashi Cinema Hall in Academy area of Feni town on Tuesday. The assailants also chopped the driver of Ekram’s car with sharp weapons leaving him critically injured in broad daylight. Ekram was elected the chairman of Fulgazi Upazila in the UZ polls held on March 23. He defeated Mahtabuddin Chowdhury Minar, backed by BNP, in the poll. In the case, his nearest rival Mahtabuddin Chowdhury Minar has been named as the prime suspect of the attack and the brutal murder. The victim’s brother Rejaul Haque Jasim filed the case against Mahtabuddin Chowdhury Minar, and 35 others with Feni Model Police Station on Tuesday midnight, according to a news agency.
