Fund crisis hampers activities of CCC-run edn instts: Mayor

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 17: Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said on Tuesday that the number of educational institutions under the CCC has increased to 90 during his ongoing tenure.
These educational institutions are playing a significant role in producing good citizens and developing human resources through providing quality education, he said at a press conference organised by the education, health family planning standing committee of the CCC at its Abdus Sattar Hall.
Replying to a question, the mayor said, "The educational institutions under the CCC are trying to provide quality education for students. But various obstacles, including fund crisis, are hampering their activities." He, however, expressed the hope that they could overcome all sorts of odds in the future.
At present, there are 48 secondary schools, 23 colleges, one university, one computer institute, five computer campuses, seven kindergartens, two primary schools, 350 Forkania madrasas, nine mosques, four 'Sanskrit Tolls', one teacher training institute, one mass education centre, one theatre institute and one public library under the management of CCC, said the mayor.
"The CCC is now constructing new buildings in 20 institutions and renovating eight educational institutions with the financing from the education engineering department. Besides, 10 new buildings were constructed with the funds provided by the JICA," he added.
He also informed the media that there are 20,330 students in CCC colleges, 37,700 students in secondary schools and 4,950 students in KG schools. A total of 1087 permanent teachers and 641 temporary teachers are presently serving the educational institutes of CCC.
Sumon Barua, chief education officer of CCC, read out a written statement at the press conference. CEO of CCC Md Shamsudoha and president of standing committee Najmul Haque Duke were also present at the press conference.
