Fund crunch stalls renovation of Rajshahi Zila Parishad auditorium

RAJSHAHI, May 21: System development and repair and renovation works of Rajshahi Zila Parishad Auditorium remained incomplete even after two and a half years of starting of the works. As a result, the Zila Parisahd is being deprived of revenue earnings in several million taka. Meanwhile, due to delay in the works, the cost of the project has increased taka one crore more. Due to shortages of fund, the renovation works of the Zila Parishad auditorium now remained suspended.
According to sources, a project for renovation and modernisation of Zila Parishad auditorium was taken in 2011 at a cost of Tk 32.30 million (three crore 23 lakh). Project works include repairing and replacement of ceiling fans, floor, roof, seats, sound systems, decoration of inside and outside and installation of Air conditioners. Though project is being implemented under annual development project of Zila Parishad, it is financed and supported by Rajshahi City Corporation.
Rajshahi city corporation prepared design of the works, invited tenders, appointed architects, contractors and paid bills of the projects.
It is learnt, during starting of the project, it was told that the Zila Parishad having no technical support, RCC will implement the project.
During last two and a half year, the works of repairing and renovation of ceiling, tinshed, tiles setting, escalator and decoration of inner and outer side has been completed but the works of renovation of chair sets, sound system and installation of AC still remained unfinished. RCC sources said, it will require taka one crore more to finish the works.
Ashraful Haque, Chief Engineer of RCC informed, most of renovation and modernization works of Zila Parishad auditorium has already been finished. He said, it will require Tk. 10 million more to finish the jobs completely but due to non-allocation of the fund from the government, it is not being possible to complete the works. He said, if the fund is available, it will take four to five months to finish the project.
