Furniture exporters set to get cash incentive

The country's furniture exporters are set to get cash incentive, as the commerce minister will soon send a demi official (DO) letter to the Ministry of Finance in this regard.
Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) vice chairman Shubhashish Bose said this Tuesday.
He said: "We have discussed the cash incentive issue in a meeting recently, following the demand of furniture exporters."
The EPB vice chairman also said a permanent exhibition centre will be set up on 10 acres of land at Sector-10 of Purbachol. The estimated cost of the project is Tk 2.75 billion. Bangladesh will give Tk 650 million for it, and Chinese government will give the rest.
He said these while speaking as the special guest of the inaugural ceremony of the five-daylong 12th National Furniture Fair 2014 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).
A total of 55 local furniture making companies are taking part in the fair. It will remain open from 10 am to 9 pm everyday. The visitors can enjoy the fair without any entry fee.
Mr Bose urged the furniture sector people to come forward to set up a design institute. The government will provide all sorts of support in this regard, he assured.
Besides, the country's universities can open separate department regarding furniture sector to build skilled manpower for it.
Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed was present at the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest.
Bangladesh Furniture Industries Owners Association (BFIOA) chairman Selim H Rahman chaired the programme.
BFIOA general secretary Eleais Sarker and organising secretary A Karim Mojumder also spoke on the occasion.
