Furniture fair 2010 kicks off tomorrow

The eighth national furniture fair 2010 with a slogan "Amar Desh Amar Asha, Deshio Furniture Shajabo Basha" will kick off tomorrow (Monday) at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
"The aim of the fair is to increase market awareness and tap the demand for high quality local furnitures both in the domestic as well as international markets," Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners Association president (BFIOA) KM Akhtaruzzaman said this at a press briefing at National Press Club.
He said "The domestic demand for furniture is worth around Tk 40 billion annually while export volume is worth Tk 160 million to USA, Australia, China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and other countries and around 2.0 million people are employed in this industry."
Commerce Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan is expected to inaugurate the fair as chief guest while The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Annisul Huq and Export Promotion Bureau vice chairman Md Shahab Ullah are expected to attend in the opening ceremony as special guests. BFIOA president will chair the ceremony.
A total of 70 leading furniture manufacturers of the country will take part in the fair to display their items in the fair.
