Gaibandha Fishermen given nets and boats

GAIBANDHA, Oct 13: A total of 30 fishermen of Fulchhari Upazila in the district recived nets and boats worth TK 0.18 million from an organisation on Monday under PFP-Shiree project funded by GOB and DFID of UK.
In cooperation with Practical Action Bangladesh (PAB), a UK based international non government organization and Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK) distributed the assets to the fishermen aimed at improving the livelihoods of the beneficiaries.
A simple function organised by GUK was also held at Baushi area under Gazaria Union of the Upazila in the district Monday.
District fisheries officer Abu Hena M. Mostafa Kamal attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and upazila fisheries officer Barun Chandra Biswas was present as the special guest.
With UP Chairman Shahida Akter, the function was also addressed, among others, by district coordinator of PAB M. Kamal Hossain, fisheries coordinator AJM Shafiqul Islam, programme coordinator of GUK Mohirul Islam Tusher and field coordinator of GUK-PFP shiree project M. Nazrul Islam.
Later, the guests handed over the fishing gear nets and fish catching boats to the fishermen in three groups.
A large number of people including public representatives, local elite and the NGO activists were present on the occasion.
Earlier, the fishermen were imparted 14 day-long training on the proper using of the nets and the boats and fisheries conservation rules.
