Gaibandha liberation day observed

The Gaibandha liberation day has been observed through various programmes in the district town amid festivities and enthusiasm among the people from all walks in life. The Gaibandha Hanadarmukta Dibash Udjapon Committee in association with various organisations and freedom fighters brought out a victory procession on Sunday from Purbopara area and paraded the main streets in the town. Hundreds of people, including freedom fighters, students and teachers, officials and employees, socio-cultural and political activists, civil society members, professionals, public representatives, and common people took part in the procession. Zila Parishad administrator Advocate Syed Sams Ul Alam Hiru, Aminul Islam Golap, Abu Bakar Siddik, Ranjeet Bakhsi Surya, Mahmudul Haque, Mossarraf Hossain Dulal, Mamtazur Rahman and Mohammad Iqbal addressed a pre-procession rally. At noon, district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad brought out another colourful victory procession, participated by a large number of freedom fighters and common people, from Public Library premises in the town. Later, Commander of district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad valiant freedom fighter Mubinul Haque presided over a discussion meeting arranged at Public Library premises. In another discussion meeting, the speakers narrated the genocide, atrocities and crimes committed against humanity by Pakistani occupation forces during Bangladesh’s independence struggles in 1971. They demanded speedy completion of the trial process and execution of the war criminals and banning politics of anti-liberation forces. Awami League leaders at a programme urged the pro-liberation forces to remain united like that in 1971 in the spirit of the War of Liberation to accelerate the pace of development by resisting any conspiracy against the country and its people to make independence meaningful for every citizen, according to a news agency.
